Law Enforcement Officer
Entry Level Salary  - $32,000.00 per year. (84 hour/biweekly pay). Indivuals with police experience are eligible for an additional $500 per year for each year of experience (up to 5 years).

The Williston Police Department is a full service law enforcement agency. This Department serves a population of approximately 3600 residents. Williston, Florida is the perfect small town in which to work and raise a family. Located about midway between Gainesville and Ocala, it has a wide array of affordable housing, good schools, and active churches. Williston's 12 officer department provides a caring, nurturing environment where one officer can make a difference.

Purpose of position: To provide law enforcement services and police duties associated with the protection, safety and welfare of the community.

Total rank structure: Patrolman, Patrolman First Class, Corporal, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Deputy Chief, and Chief

Essential functions: Proactively patrol the city to prevent crime, maintain the peace, suppress disturbances, and investigate criminal and unusual activities. Detain and arrest criminal offenders where appropriate and authorized by law. Exercise independent and discretionary judgment within the parameters established by law and department policy. Proficient with all equipment utilized in the performance of assigned duties, to include but not limited to, firearms, restraints, less lethal force weapons, vehicles, communication equipment, computers, investigative and surveillance equipment. Other related functions as assigned.

Working conditions: All equipment including uniforms, duty weapon, taser and other required equipment are provided. Overtime (paid) is sometimes mandatory and may require working for extended hours (during special events, etc.) Successful Candidates must be able to work all shifts, weekends and holidays. Successful Candidates must have the physical and mental capabilities to properly perform duties and responsibilities of a police officer. Required qualifications: High school diploma or GED, law enforcement certification in Florida, able to pass oral, written, polygraph, psychological screening, physical testing and pass an extensive background investigation. Possess valid Florida Driver's License.

Preferred qualifications: Law Enforcement experience working in a higher education or equivalent environment. Bilingual.

Communications Officer
Entry Level Salary - $25,000 annually. (Full Time/biweekly pay)

Brief Description: This is a responsible position which, under direct supervision, receives requests and dispatches appropriate emergency units in response to all calls for service.

        Dispatch Law Enforcement assignments and other official messages via the Law Enforcement radio or phone.
        Properly fulfill requests from law enforcement personnel regarding support services such as rescue, fire apparatus, wreckers, etc.
        Maintain complete and current status of all on-duty officers indicating their locations and activities.
        Monitor, evaluate and dispatch all assigned calls for service in a timely manner with appropriate response.
        Provide officers and supervisors with requested information whenever possible.
        Be alert for radio traffic and situations concerning officer safety and take action to ensure the proper response.
        Maintain cleanliness and operational readiness of assigned work area and equipment.
        Maintain all radio and phone communications in an efficient, courteous and professional manner.
        Become familiar with the boundaries of the city of Williston and Levy County and become familiar with the proper names, numbers and locations or roadways, public buildings, hospitals and so forth.
        Be alert for conditions or situations that inhibit the efficient operation of the Agency or the Communications Division and make recommendations for solutions.
        Perform any additional duties that may be required by the Chief of Police or through necessity of situations.

Job Requirements: Maintain complete FCIC Teletype certification. Successful completion of the Dispatcher on-the-job training program

Work Conditions: Work is performed in an enclosed area with background noise from radios, telephones, Teletype machines and other equipment. Shift work is required, including nights, weekends and holidays. Required to work overtime when necessary, sometimes on short notice. Subject to possible verbal abuse from callers and frequent exposure to traumatic situations.
